"We believe in...the unity of all believers in Jesus Christ, manifest in worshipping and witnessing churches making disciples throughout the world..." (from the Doctrinal Basis of InterVarsity). InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a part of the Body of Christ on campus. If you have ever wondered how many students InterVarsity Christian Fellowship touches or what ministries are active within InterVarsity, these facts may help answer some of your questions.

We bear witness to God and His church through:

1. Collegiate Ministries
In 2006-2007, InterVarsity had 864 undergraduate chapters on 580 campuses. Some campuses have separate outreaches to International students, sororities and fraternities, and ethnic minority groups. During the 2006-2007 school year, over 31,800 students were actively involved in InterVarsity chapters, 58% women and 42% men. 871 field staff support these student groups.
  • Multi-Ethnic Ministry
    • Approximately 29% of the college population (not counting Internationals) identify themselves as ethnic minorities.
    • Of the 31,800 active InterVarsity students, 8,526, or 27%, identify themselves as ethnic minority or multiracial students.
    • InterVarsity has 166 Asian American staff, 58 African American staff, 47 Hispanic staff, 8 Native American/Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander staff. (12/07/07)
    • Specialized areas of ministry include Black Campus Ministries, Asian American Ministries, and Latino Fellowship with new Native American ministry work emerging.


  • Graduate and Faculty Ministry
    • 163 chapters are primarily oriented to graduate students, professional students, and/or faculty.
    • 329 chapters have graduate student involvement.
    • 1,179 faculty members are involved with InterVarsity.


  • Nurses Christian Fellowship
    • During the 2006-2007 school year, 1,389 students participated in 110 Nurses Christian Fellowship groups in Schools of Nursing.
    • 725 Professional Nurses were involved in Nurses Christian Fellowship during the same time period.
    • Many other students and professionals are reached through the Journal of Christian Nursing and conferences which focus on applying a Christian worldview to the field of Nursing.


  • Evangelism
    • Chapter leaders reported 1,986 first-time professions of faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord.
    • 2,436 students attended the 1085 GIGs (Groups Investigating God) held during 2006-2007.


  • International Student Ministry
    • Currently, there are 583,000 international students and 100,000 international scholars in the United States from 221 countries. India, China, and Korea send the most students.
    • 66 InterVarsity staff members work to develop International Witnessing Communities on campus.
    • 3,466 International students are regularly involved in both undergraduate and graduate fellowships.

2. Missions
During 2007 the total number of InterVarsity students participating in long term and short term projects was 1,870.

  • Global Urban Trek
    • The Global Urban Trek is a series of service projects where students minister in the poorest cities of the world.
    • In 2007, 138 students and staff participated in Global Urban Treks in 6 countries.


  • Global Mission Projects
    • 616 InterVarsity students and staff participated in Global Mission Projects in 2007.


  • Urban Projects
    • There were 7 dips (weekend), 30 plunges (one week), 4 short projects (two weeks), and 11 summer internships in 21 U.S. cities with 1,116 students involved during 2007.
    • Thousands of community residents were served in cities like Los Angeles, CA; Fresno, CA; Greensboro, NC; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Milwaukee, WI; St. Lous, MO; and Portland, OR. Hundreds of students have also been involved in ongoing response to hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area.


  • InterVarsity Link


  • Urbana
    • Urbana is InterVarsity's triennial student mission convention. Students learn about the global mission of the church. At each convention, more than 20,000 students explore short-term and vocational missions opportunities. Over 350 agencies and schools host booths where students can ask questions about missions projects.
    • Since the first Convention in 1946, nearly 253,000 attendees have heard the challenge to participate in God's global mission. At Urbana 06, 9,000 attendees committed to use their vocation to serve God’s Kingdom purposes globally and/or cross-culturally. An offering of $1,247,608 was given by attendees to organizations that assist the physically and spiritually poor.
    • The next Urbana will be held December 27-31, 2009, again at Urbana's new location in St. Louis, MO. InterVarsity announced that location change in October, 2004.


3. Retreats and Training Centers (Camps)
In 2007, a total of 19,988 people attended InterVarsity's four training centers (Bear Trap Ranch, Colorado Springs, CO; Cedar Campus, Cedarville, MI; Campus By the Sea, Catalina Island, CA; Toah Nipi, Rindge, NH) to focus on God and be equipped for Christian service. These facilities are open to students, graduates, staff, families, and church groups.


4. InterVarsity Press
InterVarsity Press (IVP) publishes about 90 new books a year and has over 1000 titles in print. IVP books consistently win awards for their quality and have been translated into over 60 languages including Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Persian, Croatian, and Estonian.
