INTERVARSITY MINISTRY REPORT
A day in the life of a student

Stephanie was too afraid to turn a page in the Bible in front of her. “I don’t want to mess anything up,” she told InterVarsity staff member Allison King. Allison and Stephanie, a sophomore at Duke University in North Carolina, were having lunch and talking about their spiritual beliefs.

A month after that first lunch meeting, Allison was with Stephanie when she picked out her own Bible. A few months later, Stephanie made a decision to follow Jesus and was baptized at a local church on Easter. She was so excited about her new relationship with God, she invited a non-Christian friend to hear her testimony at the InterVarsity large group meeting. Stephanie now meets regularly with her friend to talk with her about Jesus’ life-changing gift.

After 70 years of ministry, God continues to use InterVarsity to transform individual lives. We call Christian students to a deeper understanding of God, their faith and studies, and their purpose on campus. And we invite non-Christians to explore what Jesus says through evangelistic Bible studies and interactive displays.

In the last ten years, our outreach efforts have grown by 44%. Of the 36,670 students and faculty involved with InterVarsity, over one-fourth are non-Christians exploring who Jesus is. Through personal friendships, evangelistic Bible studies, and campus-wide outreach events, these students are given the opportunity to ask spiritual questions in community and consider Jesus’ invitation to follow him with their whole lives.

When Jian came from China to the University of Illinois – Chicago for his Masters degree, he realized many of his new friends were involved with InterVarsity. Eventually, he joined their Bible study and a few weeks later attended an InterVarsity winter conference with them. At the end of the conference, Jian accepted Jesus into his life. He told his friends, “I was interested in Jesus, but I didn’t know much about him. Now I know that he died to save me, that he loves me, and that I can talk to God because of him. Today I am a new me.”

This year, 2,615 students and faculty were made new by their commitment to follow Jesus, and they are sharing the good news with their families and friends. As more InterVarsity students and faculty proclaim and live out the gospel, we are seeing God transform people’s lives.
